Dear Havyakas,
October18, 2003
Opportunities:Youths,
Jobs, Accomplishments through our HAA network & web page
Happy "Deepavali"
season.
During the HAA
convention organizing period, I had the pleasure of collecting and
bringing forward the accomplishments and contributions of many
havyakas under the "Havyaka Achievement Showcase"
section of the Souvenir. Many thanks to all those who
provided details in the specified template format well in advance
of the publication. However, some that could not be printed, will
be published as a supplement electronically. Hence, once again, I
encourage all havyakas to send in the details in the attached
template immediately so that it can be incorporated into the
electronic supplement/addendum. I am certain that there are many
more proud havyakas who have contributed to the community/
humanity through various means and felt achieved.
We need to enhance
such contributions to society, science, business or humanity and
feel achieved. One of the hallmarks of a community based
accomplishments, is a strong supportive network that we can build
through distantly related havyakas in Americas and HAA. In order
to encourage helping each other as a community, I would like to
request each one of you to actively participate in the following
activities that could be incorporated into our HAA web page (www.havyak.com)
as member only/ password protected sections.
(1) "Opportunities
for Youth": We
need to encourage youngsters to get involved at an early stage in
various community activities that could build or enhance
leadership, communication skills and talents. There are several
opportunities through national or
regional programs. However often the youngsters
and we are not aware of them in advance. Accordingly, we would
like to post web-links to such opportunities with in the HAA web
page as "Opportunities for Youth". Our youth
population is growing and many of us are yet to discover their
great potential. Since many are annual programs with
deadlines to apply, earlier we know about the opportunity, we can
coach our youngsters in advance so that their talents are
recognized at regional or national levels. Those havyakas, who
have utilized such programs or have heard about them, are very
resourceful to give their input or advice. If the havyaka
talents/interests can be identified at early stage and mentored,
they will excel in their passion. Here are some interesting
/rewarding/challenging links:

(2) " Job
Opportunities" : Through our HAA network, we can help
to achieve higher carrier goals for those havyakas who are
looking for better opportunities. As we all know, many fine jobs
are announced/posted internally within an organization first and
filled through personal contacts. So Havyaka employees of an
institution can look for internal job openings and pass on the
information to be posted in our web page. Similarly, Havyaka
employer also can post the potential job openings. In doing so,
interested person has a chance to get more details/ submitted the
resume to specific hiring individual for early action? To facilitate
such process, we need to post links/announcements under
a separate section namely " Job Opportunities”.
Example:
Immediate opening for a Ph. D Scientist with expertise in
histomorphometry/ histology in a Discovery Research division of a
Global Pharmaceutical Company. (Contact:bheembhat@yahoo.com.)
(3) Web
sites for each HAA chapters: Can be created
& maintained by the chapter-Youth co-leaders/VPs. As I
highlighted during the opening address of the convention, we
need to encourage our youth/young havyaka participation by giving
opportunities to enhance leadership skills and creativity. Accordingly
we formed "Youth Co-leader(s) position under all the15
chapters. Several youths have come forward to take the
responsibility. Web page creation and maintenance can be one of
the processes to bring the creative & interactive thoughts of
our youngsters. The youth leaders can take initiative by
incorporating the local havyaka activities, accomplishments, services,
directory, photos, meeting minutes, picnic photos and so on.
These are only some of
the thoughts and can be expanded. HAA is a good platform to
exchange ideas and information that could benefit current and
future generation havyakas. We need to strengthen our network. Let
us demonstrate our commitment to our community by helping each
other. Collectively, we can enhance our contribution to the
society. These aspects can only enhance the recognition of our youngsters,
as the potential future leaders, innovators and contributors of
humanity.
Enjoy the festival
season.
Best Regards,
Bheem
